I am a voracious reader of different genres. I particularly enjoy fantasy, science fiction, romance, historical fiction, literary fiction, and non-fiction. I tend to read books that I can get from the library, and I often have half a dozen books in progress at any given time.
When I finish reading a book, I am usually bursting with the desire to talk about it with someone, but most people I know don’t have the same eclectic tastes that I do. I realized that writing reviews would be a good way to share my thoughts. The idea of writing full reviews felt intimidating, and so I decided to limit myself — five sentences per book, encapsulating the most important points I want to share.
Ratings
I use a five-star rating system to keep things simple. Here’s a rough guide to how I rate books:
★★★★★: Loved it! Highly recommended, usually great writing style, incredible characters, plot, and/or setting. Generally reserved for books that absolutely knocked my socks off.
★★★★☆: Really liked it! Maybe it wasn’t the best of the best, but I’d probably recommend it (especially if you’re a fan of the genre).
★★★☆☆: An enjoyable read. Maybe it had a predictable plot or the characters weren’t entirely three-dimensional, but I had fun while it lasted.
★★☆☆☆: Didn’t particularly like it. It was fine enough to finish, but something was lacking or bothered me. Not recommended unless what bothered me is a plus for you.
★☆☆☆☆: Really disliked it or DNF.
